If you spend any amount of time on social media, especially Facebook, you've probably come across the quizzes that are so popular now. What city should you live in? What Game of Thrones character are you? Who's your inner Disney villain?  They're fun, take only a minute or two to finish, and usually give you a smile when you get the results. But the best thing about these quizzes is that they get passed from person to person faster than almost any other post. What if you could get advertising for your book passed around that easily? You can, by combining the quizzes and the subject of your book. Book_quiz

What Kind of Quiz?

Think about the reason your readers buy your books. If it's non-fiction, the general topic should be your quiz theme. For fiction, pick a general topic or some signature item in your book series. Is it set in Las Vegas? Revolve around space? Is it a murder mystery? Find a general category that interests your readers. That's the topic you should work from. Pick out six to ten separate sub-topics to serve as your questions.

How to Build a Quiz

Do a search online for "create an online quiz". You'll find a variety of sites that allow you to create your own personal quiz. Look through a few to find one that seems user friendly to you. Find out how many questions your site allows, then tailor your quiz to that site. You'll probably need some pictures for the question pages. Go with Creative Commons pictures or ones from your own book cover designs if possible. Most sites include ways to track your results including number of clicks and the amount of quizzes shared. Use this information to tailor your next quiz.

How to Create Sales

Pick an objective for your quiz. Do you want to lead people to your website? Get them to sign up for your newsletter? Like your Facebook page? Each quiz will allow you to post a small call-to-action at the end. Make sure it ties in closely with the quiz results. If the quiz is fun, you should get good results on your link.

Where to Post

Depending on your call to action, you can post the quiz on Facebook. It's most likely to be shared there, especially if you take the quiz yourself and post the results on your main page. Post the quiz on your author website as a treat for your fans, and include a link at the bottom where readers can post their results on their own Facebook pages. Add a link to the quiz to your Twitter feed, and to your forum signature if you're a member of other topic-friendly forums. Post it anywhere people who like your books are likely to gather online, then let them post their results.

Keep the Faith and May the Force be with You!
