Synopsis - To Pee or Not to Pee: The Prostate Guide for the Common Man
When you can find the lighter side of any situation --even a cancer diagnosis-- you can approach it and manage it better. My book takes a serious subject and overlays humor to remove the stress while hitting home with important messages about prevention, diagnosis, and the positive expectation of living beyond the prostate-related diseases.”
Speaking in the voice of the prostate itself, and using cartoon graphic images, Schwartz cuts this troubling subject down to a manageable size. Comedy film master Charlie Chaplin said that life is a tragedy in close-up, but a comedy in the long shot, because humor provides much-needed psychological distance and perspective.
Schwartz eases the inherent stresses of the prostate cancer conversation while educating the reader with the facts and opening the door to a more effective conversation with a primary care physician, urologist, radiation oncologist, and medical oncologist
To Pee or Not to Pee gives patients and their loved ones a way to intelligently participate in all aspects of prostate health care. It breaks down the facts about the prostate and its important functions in an easy to read book that anyone, at any level, can understand.
Author Interview
How did your book come to life?
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago and when I tried to find out information from books and professionals I ended up being more confused than when I started.
What other books are most similar to yours?
There are books on prostate cancer, but they are too technical and would scare and confuse the common man
Why do you think your readers are going to enjoy your book?
I had simple, easy to understand information sprinkled with humor, cartoons and smiles to ease the anxiety produced by the “C” word. It is also written by the prostate (as told to me) so the reader gets a true organs perspective. Humor makes remembering better, eases tension, prevents MEGO (My eyes glaze over).
In two sentences or less can you tell readers something unique about your book?
It is written by the prostate, about the prostate. It is an organ expose.
List three adjectives that describe your book as a whole:
Informative, humorous and understandable.
Where do you find your ideas? Does something trigger them? Do you carry around a notebook in case inspiration strikes?
I have the gift of a humorous perspective that helps me get through life. I carry my hippocampus (in the brain, the seat of memory) wherever I go.
Why do you write? Is it something you’ve always done, or always wanted to do?
It is fun to write. I like being in the spotlight. I like making others laugh. I love to teach. I have written all my life. My 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade teachers told me I had to change my attitude and be more serious or I would never amount to anything in life.
Why did you decide to publish with Infinity Publishing?
A friend mentioned the company. I spoke with Mariella and was impressed with what she had to say. She spent almost an hour with me before I made my decision to go with infinity. That was impressive. Everyone I spoke to at Infinity has been wonderful.
When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
Professional Speaker, Talking about Treating ADHD (Adult Deficient Humor Disorder). It’s a talk about the science of humor, its physiologic, psychological, cognitive, and emotional benefits of humor and where to find humor.
