Thanksgiving and the Power of Writing:

Happy Thanksgiving! Today is a day we love to get together with family and friends, eat way too much delicious food, and focus on all of the gifts in our lives.

But let’s be honest, somehow the day seems to be more about hanging out and stuffing ourselves, than really digging deep and focusing on the meaning and purpose of the day.

We can change that. You can change that. Give yourself just a few minutes today and write. Writing gives you a path to process and express all your thoughts and feelings by putting them into words. By having to choose those words, you have to take the time to make sure you have chosen what most appropriately reflects and represents what you want to say. And by putting those words onto paper, you have given those reflections a permanence, something you can look back on in years to come.

Take out a piece of paper, or grab your laptop, and take just a few minutes to write about Thanks and to write about Giving. Have you ever wondered why Thanksgiving is comprised of these two words? It is because they need to go hand-in-hand. True gratitude for the gifts we have in our lives should be reciprocated and responded to by giving to others. The best way to be thankful is to make someone else thankful.

So before you head over to that meal or put your turkey in the oven, making today meaningful and powerful through writing. And make sure to date what you write so that next year you can remember how you felt today.

Here are a few prompts to get you going:

      1. Write 5 things in your life you are so blessed to have?
      2. Write about something you so badly wanted last Thanksgiving that has since happened.
      3. Write about something you so badly hope for now that will hopefully happen before next Thanksgiving.
      4. Write down three people you can reach out to and express your gratitude for.
      5. Write down something that you can do today to give back and help another.

We hope that you have a healthy, happy and beautiful Thanksgiving. We are so grateful to you for being part of Opyrus and we hope that we can continue to inspire and give to you by helping you tap your power to write and transform your life!
