Spreading the word that your book is out there isn’t easy, but one of the most popular ways is by sending copies to book reviewers and columnists. Not only does it announce the release of your book, it helps reach your audience. Putting your book in the hands of the media helps create buzz and anticipation before your book is even open to the public and gives you a stage for sharing your point-of-view to journalists, columnists, and of course, your readers.
But how do you decide which reviewers to send your book to? Do the research! Make sure you choose a specific reviewer who focuses on your genre. That way, you’ll have an expert promoting your book to the audience you want to reach.
One way self-published authors can send their books is by requesting Advance Reading Copies. But be careful, ARCs are usually first proofs and may contain errors. You can also send ARCs to book clubs or reading circles that are known for their interest in a particular genre.
And what better way to spread positive word-of-mouth then by giving out copies of your book to your family and friends? They can tell their friends, who will tell their friends, and so on!
