Who can sell your story better than you? As an author, marketing your book is of the utmost importance during pre-publishing as well distribution, especially when self-publishing. After working tirelessly to getting your book into print, it is time to take off your writer hat and put on your marketing and PR cap. This week’s marketing goal of the week will provide you with simple tips and tricks on you can do to sell more books.

Carry your book with you.  How often have you been to the beach or a coffee shop and secretly spied on the person who was reading, trying to catch a glimpse of the book title? You would be surprised what conversations might be stirred up if you carry your book around. We won’t fault you for pretending to read our own book in public. See what happens!

Stop by your local library. Having your library purchase a copy of your book is a great way to get your title or series available to your community. Library bookworms can be the best type of people to be rallying around your title; everyone loves a local success story. After all, you want there to be a waitlist for your book at the library. They might even be interested in hosting a reading where you can sell copies.

Contact a local independent bookstore. Let the networking begin! Introduce yourself at a small local bookstore and ask about doing a book signing with them. They will have to buy books and you may meet new potential readers along the way. Promoting events such as this on your author website show that you’ve created local ties as an indie author and others may reach out to you to do the same at their store.

Cross promotion. Reach out to another author in your genre and see if they would be willing to promote your book to their audience or offer an endorsement.  In return, you'll do the same for them, a sort of if you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours…but for authors.  You’d be surprised what writers are willing to do for each other.

ABC. It’s the alphabet of the sales world: Always Be Closing. With the mindset that there is a potential sale around every corner, you will ultimately create success for your book or series. You have to be on the lookout at all times for those opportunities and continue to brainstorm for your next best sales tactic.
