Marketing Subject: My Blog Expectations
I’m not writing to criticize those who have written in this marketing blog. It’s not my job to do so. In fact there hasn’t been that much to criticize. The blog has only been in operation for a week. I’m writing to make suggestions for the future, because of my own particular needs. I would expect that anyone writing a blog would give some practical advice with processes and procedures, rather than theory about marketing that could be read in any Marketing 101 handbook on book promotions.
Saying that it would be good to attend book fairs, or go on a book tour is not sufficient. We should be specific about our suggestions. For example say what book fairs usually come through your area, and how to get in touch with the organization in order to participate. In reference to book tours specify the mechanics of how to get one started.
I believe the marketing blog should specify whether you were successful in your marketing efforts or were a failure. It does just as much good to know what failed as well as what was a success.
I take this blog very seriously because it could potentially be very helpful in my efforts to market my books. I have been working at this for a long time and haven’t had much success. Of course, I haven’t been that active in promoting my books. So far I haven’t found the books available on marketing very helpful. Most of them do not apply to my specific situation. Too many of them talk in generalities. I find that most of what is said has to be interpolated and restructured to fit my particular needs. Maybe I have failed to do this, and that’s why I haven’t been successful.
Whatever is done, I hope that the marketing blog is continued. I believe it could provide a fresh new perspective for us all that offers a procedural and process oriented approach rather than abstract information.
I know it’s not about what any particular individual expects. Infinity has the final word on what should be contained in the blog, but I wanted to express my opinion. Maybe if we all said what we expect we could be serious and get down to writing a powerful blog that will last and be of benefit to everyone.
