Marketing Subject: We Need Each Others Help, Please contribute to Marketing Blog
Self-publishing authors need each other. If other self-publishing authors are like me they need all the help they can get. Most authors are decent when it comes to writing, some are better than others, but when it comes to marketing, most of us draw a blank. The problem usually is finding economical and practical marketing strategies. Don’t let your fellow authors down; share you practical and economic marketing strategies with your colleagues. We need to have a sense of a writing community.
When I first received the email that Infinity was about the start a marketing blog, I thought what a wonderful idea. I have written 20+ books with Infinity Publishing, but still haven’t gotten to first base with respect to marketing. I have tried several so-called marketing companies, but they all failed to deliver what they promised.
Judging from initial responses, it seems that people have been reluctant to share their marketing strategies, in this first week of the blog. I hope everybody is not as challenged as I am when it comes to marketing. I know the area of writing is overrun with people who are writing books these days. Some people start a writing career because of the economy, and others can’t find employment and find themselves with extra time on their hands.
In my early days as a psychotherapist I found that other therapists who had a big clientele were reluctant to share their secrets with neophyte therapists. They wanted to keep a good thing to themselves. In everyone sharing it will only help everyone to prosper. Everyone is independent and can only benefit by helping the other person. Our success doesn’t depend on keeping your secrets from everyone else.
The old theory goes in religious circles that if you want to feel empowered, help someone else; or if you want to feel good about yourself, attend to someone else’s needs. Of course, there are those who feel that if they help someone else they are going to do themselves out of something. I assure you if want detract from your success. We should realize that one person’s success has nothing to do with the success or failure of another, but we can help each other.
Some people might say, “I’m doing fine, I have struggled for myself, why should I share my successes or failures with others? I must say that I look forward to reading the entries every evening. I am rather disappointed in the number of entries, when I know that many authors have successes and disappointments in marketing to share. I want to read someone else’s entries beside my own.
